{Version 2}
Long ago a civilization inhabited this desolate and overly gusty terrain. Throughout their history, they were bombarded with meteors. Often the meteors meant certain death and destruction, but also they brought life. For when the fire rained from the heavens and crashed into their smooth landscape, it created new areas to live and explore (maybe unearthing a new water source), and certainly bringing fire.

For this culture, fire and water meant life, without them they would die. Thus it was utterly important to locate new meteors and get to their precious fire before it was extinquished by the strong winds of this world. Retrieving the fire was a dangerous task, and only performed by the most athletic and heroic of their tribe. Just getting to the meteor in time required a skill for quickly navigating their most dangerous and treacherous terrain. Such honor and admiration was attributed to the tribespeople who became these “Fire Runners” that many of the athletes began to form factions and deceit spread .
